Prithvi Theatre

Prithvi Theatre is a public theater venue. All shows at this theater are open to the public and ticketed. The theater rent is scaled to the ticket rate – ticket rates are fixed at Rs 80 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but can be anywhere between Rs 100 and Rs 300 on other days.

It is an intimate theater auditorium, built in 1978, and dedicated to being a catalyst for theater. Set in the heart of Mumbai's suburbs, the theater with its open-air cafe is a warm, inviting space, a relaxed hangout and a vital breathing space in the bustling city of Mumbai. It is a subsidiary of the Shri Prithviraj Kapoor Memorial Trust & Research Foundation. The Trust was set up in 1975 in the memory of Prithviraj Kapoor, to achieve the following aims:

1. To build a theater to promote professional Hindi theater primarily, with all technical facilities available.

2. Subsidizing and promoting aspiring and deserving stage artists, technicians, researchers etc.

3. Managing a theater of international standards - hosting and conducting workshops.

4. Providing rehearsal and workshop spaces.

5. Creating a theater resource center and research library.

6. Providing medical and educational assistance to theater workers and their children.

The Prithvi Theatre is a completely non-profit entity depending on the patronage of individuals and companies committed to the development of the performing and fine arts. Since its inception it is these sponsors who have enabled the theater to grow and expand its activities.

Information on shows for the month ahead are uploaded on its website by the 20th of each month. Regular show times at Prithvi tend to be 6 pm & 9 pm. It continues to flourish, providing a home for new talent and source of inspiration to the theater fraternity and audience with over 400 shows a year, Tuesday through Sunday. Groups have the option to perform one or two shows each evening on weekdays. Booking for shows Tuesday to Sunday begin from the Wednesday of the week before. Tickets are available at the Prithvi Theatre Box Office (1pm to 9pm daily, closed Mondays). It provides a facility of online booking and ticket home delivery.
