In 1997 a public charitable trust ORCA (Oval Cooperage Residents Associations) won the rights over the field from the government, which improved the condition as well as the popularity of the field to a large extent. In fact, it is known as the Grade-I recreational ground, which is considered to be a high honor to win. The popular ground boasts of having a large jogging course around the periphery. A very popular cricket academy known as the ELF Cricket Academy is also situated close to the ground. Due to its location, in the immediate vicinity of the High Courts and the University of Mumbai, the Oval Maidan is also a popular touristic attraction.
