The Chemould Gallery was founded by Kekoo and Khorshed Gandhy and has displayed the works of various talented artists, who emerged from India's modernist and contemporary art movements. Shireen Gandhy, the director of the gallery since 1988 has applied new techniques by introducing emphasis on new artists with a combination of experiment and cooperation
Housed in an old British colonial building with high ceilings, the Chemould Gallery has all modern high tech facilities. Its central gallery area is around 5000 square feet which also has a smaller display inside a bigger one and is ideally suited for intimate art exhibitions.
Over the last many decades, Chemould has been instrumental in promoting a plethora of Indian artists like Ram Kumar, Tyeb Mehta, J. Swaminathan and Sabavala, Bhupen Khakhar, Arpita Singh, Laxma Goud, Paritosh Sen, Bikash Bhattacharjee, Ganesh Pyne, Nalini Malani, Pushpamala N., Shakuntala Kulkarni, Vivan Sundaram, Deshmond Lazaro, Jagannath Panda, Lavanya Mani, Anant Joshi and Atul Dodiya to name a few.
