Description

Welcome to a tour that makes you experience the nightlife of this city along with a food tour where we taste 8 favourite dishes from the best of joints. This tour is based out of a story titled, “Lights, Flavour, Action”, the locations have been picked to fit the storyline and our guide takes on the role of a narrator who takes you on this cinematic journey. The tour begins at 5 pm in the heart of the city at a beautiful sea deck. Amidst the waves crashing, we do a group ice-breaking session. After warm introductions, the guide reads the intro of the script and the journey begins. Our first part is about the native Marathi culture where we walk through an iconic neighbourhood which has witnessed crucial events of this city. We head to a street food stall that is loved by the neighbourhood residents to have the signature snack of this city - Vada Pav which looks like a burger and contains a yummy deep-fried potato fritter mixed with sweet and spicy sauces. Next, we walk towards the busiest train station of this city while quickly stopping for a popular Indian snack- Samosa (a savoury deep-fried pastry snack filled with potato) from a century old shop that serves it with a secret sauce that will make you want to have more. As we reach the station, we get to witness the infamous rush hour of the Mumbai local trains. We go in the opposite direction which is a leisurely ride and arrive at a beach to enjoy the evening breeze. The air is filled with an aroma of snacks that is sweet, sour and spicy all together and grew from the city’s beach culture. We try 3 popular snacks- Pani Puri (crispy fried shells filled with spiced mashed potato, chickpeas and onion), Bhel Puri and Sev Puri (puffed rice mixed with chopped veggies and masala) at a beach stall and then take a leisurely walk to a veg restaurant that is famous for serving Pav Bhaji, a flavourful curry made with a mix of mashed vegetables and masala cooked on butter and served with bread. From there we make our way to the older parts of the city where we first visit the historic Chor Bazaar area and follow the eating ritual of an unique Islamic community that starts with a dessert and then on to a main course called Bohras. We taste a yummy mango malai (condensed milk) sweet and then have a dish that is called Baidya Roti, a paratha stuffed with chunks of grilled chicken and mint sauce. Next, we catch a local bus to arrive in front of the grandest train station, CSMT. We take a walk around this calm area filled with majestic colonial buildings that put on a light show and reach a century old cafe to taste a dish named Keema Pav- Minced Mutton curry served with Bread. We reach Marine Drive, the best place to be at night time where the story ends. All Mumbai city tours are incomplete without a touch of this unique gastronomy. Get Local’s city tour guide in Mumbai makes every spice trip seem like a touch of art and every nectarous experience, a twist of fate ust like in the movies.
