The Joseph Baptista Park is situated in the Mazagaon Hill .This garden has a historical value and is dedicated to a freedom fighter Joseph Baptista, lovingly called ‘Kaka’. The garden is a beautiful place with a plethora of floras. It offers you a wonderful view of the port and the suburbs. This beautiful garden was made in the 17th Century during the Mughal rule.
After the British arrived in Bombay in the 1660s, they selected Bhandarwala hill, a basalt rocky outcrop as a site for the Mazagon Fort, which was built in 1680. However, the fort was completely razed by Siddi ruler Yakut Khan after which he withdrew his siege on the orders of the Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb.
This park is located in South Mumbai in Mazagaon. It lies atop a hill, the Bhandarwada Hill, and offers a panoramic view of the Mumbai harbor and the southern business district of the city. Beneath the garden is a water reservoir, constructed by the second Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai, John Hay Grant in between 1880–1884. Shortly after India's independence in 1947, the garden was named after Joseph Baptista, an Indian freedom activist.
