Description

Explore the Gateway of India, Regal Theatre, Prince of Wales Museum, and more on a guided walking tour of Mumbai. See the High Court of Mumbai, the Flora Fountain, and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Begin your tour at the Gateway of India, one of the most famous destinations in Mumbai. Learn about the history of the site, which was the place where the last of the British troops departed, marking the end of British rule in 1947. Continue to the Regal Theatre, which is just a 5-minute walk away. Admire the Art Deco cinema designed by Karl Schara, which was inaugurated in 1933. After the theater, walk to the Prince of Wales Museum. Appreciate the craft of George Wittet, the designer of the building, from the outside. Opposite the museum is Elphistone College, a Gothic-Victorian-style university. Next, stroll down Mahatma Gandhi Road to see the David Sassoon Library, named after the Jewish businessman who funded the structure. Adjacent to the library is the Army and Navy Building, which was used as a British army navy store. Continue to the University of Bombay and the High Court of Mumbai. Then, walk to the Flora Fountain, a stone fountain in the Fort business district of South Mumbai. Finally, head to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, formerly known as the Victoria Terminus Railway Station. From here, take a short taxi ride to Colaba. End your tour at the Leopold Local café.
