Description

Explore the Elephanta Caves on this accessible tour from Mumbai. Learn about the Hindu God Lord Shiva and see different statues dating back to the 4th-5th centuries BC. Enjoy a hassle-free experience with a professional care assistant. Meet your guide at the International Cruise Terminal and board a chauffeur-driven, air-conditioned vehicle. Throughout the tour, be accompanied by an English-speaking, local tour guide and your professional special care attendants. Arrive at the Gateway of India and board a boat to Elephanta Island. The Portuguese named the island ‘Elephanta’ after the statue of an elephant near the landing site. The caves house rock-cut temples dating back to the 5th century. The Elephanta Island has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 to preserve the artwork. The Elephanta caves complex is a collection of shrines, courtyards, inner cells, great halls, and porticoes arranged in the magnificent symmetry of Indian rock-cut architecture and filled with exquisite stone sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses. There are about 120 steps to climb but it’s definitely worth a visit. For those who do not wish to climb, there are porter chairs for a small cost at the start of the tour. After the tour, return to the Gateway of India and board a boat back to Mumbai.
