Description

You will be picked up by a guide from your hotel lobby at 09:00 and taken to the Gateway of India. The Gateway of India is one of the most famous architectural structures in Mumbai and a popular tourist attraction. Its stunning construction portrays both Muslim and Hindu styles of architecture. You will take in the Royal Taj Hotel, which is located opposite the Gateway of India. This place is indeed a treasure trove of invaluable memories of the heritage of Mumbai and of the Taj Towers, which are an amazing architectural structure worth seeing. The walk then proceeds towards the Regal Theater. This theater was designed by Charles Stevens and the interior was created by Karl Schara. It opened in the year 1933 as the Regal Cinema and was the only Art Deco cinema present at the time. After that, the tour group is taken to view the Prince of Wales Museum from the outside. This museum was designed by George Willet and its foundation stone was laid in the year 1905 by the visiting Prince of Wales. Next, the walk continues on to the Elphinstone College – a 19th century, majestic, Gothic-Victorian-style university campus, complete with balconies, balustrades, gargoyles and turrets. Further down the road is the University of Bombay, which was established in 1857 at the Town Hall. In 1874, it was relocated to the new complex near Oval Maidan. At present, this University is amongst the best in the country and ranked among the top 500 universities in the world. The walk continues to the Flora Fountain – a beautifully structured stone fountain located in the Fort business district that was constructed by the Agri‐Horticultural Society of Western India. After viewing the fountain, the walk continues to the Victoria Terminus Railway Station (Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus), the headquarters of the Central Railways. This 19th-century building demonstrates both structural and technical brilliance and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. After all the walking, the tour participants take a short taxi ride for about 2 kms (10 minutes), from the VT station to a small café with a nostalgic aura, Café Samovar, which is located in the Jahangir Art Gallery. After a relaxing break of snacks at the Samovar Café, you are taken back to your hotels.
